Common groove forms for O-ring seals

When the rubber sealing ring is installed in the groove, it should be allowed to have a certain amount of expansion space. At the same time, there are certain requirements for the accuracy and surface of groove processing, such as the absence of small grooves, scratches, pits, concentric or spiral processing marks on the groove surface and sealing surface. The usual allowed expansion rate is about 15 in static seals and about 8 in dynamic seals. The scope of use varies for different types of grooves. What are the commonly used forms of grooves?

1. Triangle groove

Commonly used for sealing on flanges and end caps, its disadvantage is that it is difficult to manufacture and the space for rubber sealing rings is very small.

2. Rectangular grooves are widely used in various sealing applications and can be used with inclined sides when no retaining ring (seal) is required.
